Welcome to Palgrave United Church
A Home for Faith, Fellowship and Family
About Us
We are a vibrant and diverse church, part of the United Church of Canada, dedicated to building a community of faith that fosters spiritual growth and loving relationships, welcoming diversity and inclusivity. Being who we are and what we do, we seek to serve God, community and each other.
In all we do at Palgrave United Church, we are guided by the biblical directive of Micah 6:8. What does God require of us? To seek justice, love kindness, and walk humbly. We believe that living this mission leads us to speak up, speak out, and act, both individually and collectively.
Palgrave Church is also a leader dedicated to the preservation of our environment. Roof solar panels were added in 2013. Recently all the pews in the sanctuary were removed-part of the renovations to make the church a beautiful multi-purpose facility to encompass our out-reach initiatives. The installation of a high efficiency gas furnace, heat pump and energy efficient lights and fans are just part of our “green” commitments for this church to reduce its carbon footprint.
Palgrave church and its people truly celebrate God’s world!
We look forward to seeing you!

A Brief History of Palgrave United Church
This congregation actually began as a Primitive Methodist Church in the home of John and James Coates in 1843. In 1855, farmer Benjamin Rowley started another small church which gathered in the log cabin on his property. In 1867, he moved this gathering into Buckstown (the original name of Palgrave), calling it Zion-Buckstown. But the history of Palgrave United Church was also the history of Coates’, Hall’s, Waudby’s, Fuller’s, Tecumseth and King congregations. (In early times, since roads were almost non- existent and people rode or walked, it was necessary to have a church every two to three miles.)
The existing frame church at the corner of Pine and Maple Avenues was built and opened in 1878, for a total cost of $700.00. The attached burial ground was featured on this property as well.
In 1884, all the local circuit Methodist churches united as part of the Methodist Church of Canada.
In 1925, The United Church of Canada was formed when the Methodist Church, Canada, the Congregational Union of Canada, and 70 percent of the Presbyterian Church in Canada united. Also joining was the small General Council of Union Churches, mostly from Western Canada. It was the first union of churches in the world to cross historical denominational lines. Today, the United Church, now celebrating 100 years, is the largest Protestant denomination in Canada, with over a million participants, in about 2500 congregations.
Services and Events of Palgrave United Church
Sunday Services are held at 10:30 a.m. running from September through June, closed in July and August.
Although there is not a salaried minister associated with the church, the services are led by excellent leaders, both ordained ministers and licensed lay ministers, with the participation of the congregation as well. The services are friendly, informal and musical! We are blessed with the musical talents of Jacob Whitehead.
We celebrate communion once a month. Baptisms during a service can be arranged. All are welcome! We also use Zoom for those who wish to attend with this format.
Although not specifically available with our guest ministers, arrangements for weddings and funerals can be made through the Palgrave United Community Kitchen (PUCK), which manages the building rentals.
Growing Together and Prayer Circle: Thursdays 3:30-5:00
